The Yamaha YZF-R7 was one of the most exciting launches by the Japanese auto-giant in a long time. While it wasn’t the YZF-R6 replacement everyone was hoping for, it was a lot of other things. Good things.

However, one little gripe many people have with modern motorcycles, such as the R7, is their exhausts which, though quite heavy, don’t sound as exciting. One of the leading solutions to this problem is throwing in an after-market exhaust. European exhaust company, SC-Project, with their latest project (pun not intended) has launched a new full-system exhaust for the Yamaha YZF-R7.

Officially dubbed the SC-1S, the exhaust is a full-system meaning it comes with its own exhaust headers and an end-can. The latter is available in two finishes, carbon fiber and titanium, while the exhaust pipes are made out of steel for either option.

What’s commendable here though, is the fact that even though this exhaust helps create a growling exhaust note from the 689cc, parallel-twin mill it still adheres to Euro-5 emission norms (street legal, yay!)

However, SC-Project hasn’t shed light on how many ponies this unlocks but we don’t expect much, considering it isn’t a free-flow unit that eliminates the catalytic converter. What we do know though, is that this exhaust shaves off 4.4 pounds from the bike’s weight.

For reference, the Yamaha YZF-R7 puts out 73.4 horsepower and 49 pound-feet in its stock avatar.

The whole package contains a slip-on muffler, stainless 2-into-1 pipes, carbon fiber exhaust shield, necessary screws, a bracket, and SC-Project stickers. Not to forget, the company offers a 24-month warranty too.

Sounds good? Then, be sure to set aside 1,260 Euros or around $1,400, which isn’t really cheap, especially when the YZF-R7 itself costs $8,999.

Nevertheless, for what it’s worth, this is one of the few ’legal’ aftermarket exhausts you can buy in the market, and it will save you from the police while also making your heart happy with the sweet exhaust note.
